Frances Savage

Based in Manchester, UK

Frances Savage is a local studio potter based at the Manchester Ceramics Collective, in Old Trafford. After completing 2 years on an intensive course designed to teach a new generation a practical and in-depth exploration of the craft of pottery at Clay College in Stoke on Trent, Frances then spent 3 months as an assistant at La Meridiana, International School of Ceramics in Tuscany. This intensive course was focused on gas reduction firing and wood firings, which both influence her current work.

'I love to make pots that are joyful to use as part of everyday rituals to encourage a sense of comfort and warmth. I am a great admirer of Medieval pottery and hope to create friendly forms in an expressive manner with generous curves, slipped surfaces and playful handles. I am fascinated with people’s relationships to material objects and like to leave traces of the maker on my pieces to encourage a dialogue with the user.'

Frances now also teaches pottery class at Sunken Studio in Leeds.
