Ceramic Care

Our ceramics are made by hand, and are fired at very high temperatures to produce ‘stoneware’ which is long lasting, and suitable for everyday use. Although most are dishwasher safe (see individual product descriptions) we recommend that you wash your ceramics carefully by hand to prolong their lifespan. You should also avoid placing your ceramics in extreme temperatures like the oven or freezer, as this may cause them to crack or become fragile.

Candle Care

When burning a jar candle for the first time try to allow the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the jar. This will ensure an even burn throughout the candle and will avoid what is known as tunnelling, where only part of the wax melts, creating a shorter burn life. If you take the time to do this, you will get the maximum burn time from your candle.

Before each burn, remove debris that may have collected in the wax pool around the wick, and trim your wick to ¼ of an inch. This will ensure that your candle burns evenly, controlling the size of the flame, which will prevent any dark smoke and allow you to get the most time out of your candle. You can use a wick trimmer, or simply just pinch it off with your fingers.

You should only burn your candle for up to 4 hours at a time. When the candle wax is down to 1/2 inch we recommend that you discontinue use. You can easily scrape out the left over layer of wax, and clean the jar ready to reuse or repurpose.

Wood Care

Wooden products require a little care to keep them looking their best. As wood naturally absorbs moisture, you should avoid submerging or soaking in water, and keep out of the dishwasher. To wash, use a soft damp cloth and mild detergent, and dry straight away.

We stock a great Wood Balm by Selwyn House, which is made from the same finishes used in their workshop. The Wood Balm is vegan and completely plant-based – a mixture of walnut oil, candelilla wax and cold-pressed lemon oil – and is what we’d recommend for rejuvenating your wooden pieces. . Natural edible oils such as olive, rapeseed or vegetable, are not recommended as these may affect the colour of the wood as well as running the risk of going rancid over time.

Glass Care

Our Moroccan glasses are made from recycled glass and are dishwasher safe. However, we do recommend that you hand wash when possible to keep the glasses looking at their best, avoid any scratches, and prolong their lifespan. Clean with warm water and a mild soap, using a soft cloth or sponge.
