The Organic Company

Based in Copenhagen, Demmark

Honesty, transparency and an ambitious wish to make a difference is the rock solid foundation for The Organic Company, founded by entrepreneur Joy Vasiljev in 2007.

Since then, the company has developed a collection of organic textiles for the home, which includes textiles for the bath, kitchen, children, bags, meditation and blankets. The products are designed by The Organic Company and, from time to time, co-designed with selected Danish designers.

All products are made of organic cotton and certified with the international organic standard GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). This standard focuses on 2 major areas; environment and social responsibility, and guarantees that all fabrics are free from toxins and heavy metals, and international workers rights are respected.

'In a time when humanity needs to rethink the future, we consider responsible business as a necessary game changer.' – The Organic Company

What is Organic Cotton?

Organic cotton is a natural, renewable and biodegradable fibre. It benefits cotton producers and the environment in developing countries by avoiding the harmful effects of toxic pesticides, and the reduced cost of production improves social conditions.

The Benefits:
It’s better for the farm environment
It’s better for workers in the developing world
It avoids Genetic Modification
It doesn’t use harmful manufacturing chemicals
Factory conditions are higher
The end garments are residue free

By contrast the non-organic cotton industry is a huge source of global environmental pollution, using almost one quarter of all the world’s insecticides and 10% of pesticides, social conditions for cotton growers can be poor, with poverty, health problems and suicide common, and thousands of chemicals are used to turn raw material into clothes, towels, bedding and other items that we put next to our skin every day.”
